Mutaher Jehan Khatib

My name is Mrs Mutaher Jehan Khatib. I am a retired Obstetrician & Gynaecologist. I am currently the Managing Director of the MDA Clinic, which is an independent eye daycare hospital on Cathedral Road in Cardiff. It was the first laser eye surgery centre in Wales, established by my husband who is the clinic’s eye surgeon. We provide work experience opportunities for students and offer career advice. We also help with interview preparation to support students applying for university.

Since 2005, the MDA Clinic has held an annual event called the MDA Annual Awards, which recognises the contributions of high achievers from ethnic minority backgrounds. The aim is to inspire the younger generation by showing them that with dedication and hard work, it is possible to be successful in this country irrespective of your background. During this event we also have a public speaking competition for GCSE and A-level students to encourage them to speak on a public platform.

I want to support Uprising as I believe that the youth are the backbone of society and are the future of this country. We need to invest in them and give them opportunities to bring out their full potential. I feel that Uprising is doing this very effectively and wanted to be part of that support for the younger generation.

I have three daughters; the eldest is training to be an eye surgeon, the second has studied physics and the youngest is training to be a radiologist
