UpRising are hiring for our Surviving to Thriving Project

Surviving to Thriving is a partnership between the British Red Cross, the Refugee Council and UpRising that aims to improve the lives of unaccompanied refugee and asylum seeking children and young people. As part of this project participants can learn about their rights and entitlements with the British Red Cross, take part in therapeutic counselling with the Refugee Council, and explore leadership and social action on UpRising’s Find Your Power Programme

Find Your Power is a free three-month skills development programme for unaccompanied refugee and asylum seeking young people aged between 16 - 25 which runs in Birmingham and Bedfordshire.  Each programme supports 15 young people to explore the issues that affect them and create a short film about these issues, alongside a professional film maker.  Previous groups have explored Education, Destitution, Loneliness and Prejudice.

UpRising are looking for an experienced facilitator to assist with delivering sessions as part of Find Your Power in Birmingham.

Applicants will need excellent communication skills and the ability to support group facilitation. This role will be working directly with unaccompanied refugee and asylum seeking children and young people, a group which requires significant additional support.  Experience of, or an aptitude for, working with vulnerable young people in this field of work is desirable.

The successful applicant will need to undergo a DBS check to work with under 18s, and will need to be able to travel to, or be based in, Birmingham.  Please note that this is a causal role with a set number of hours.

Hours of work: 5pm – 9pm on Tuesday evenings

Frequency of work: Dates are on the full job pack.  The successful applicant will be offered up to 3 programmes (27 sessions) total.

Rate of pay: £10.20 per hour
