What is your motivation for working at UpRising?
I’m committed to making our society as equal as possible, and ensuring that our diverse society is reflected in positions of leadership. There’s so many talented young people out there who aren’t getting the opportunities they deserve, and I love that UpRising helps them access these opportunities. Working at UpRising means I get to work directly with young people, which is something I really enjoy, and I can’t wait to see how they all develop on their journeys with UpRising.
What were you doing before you worked at UpRising?
Figuring things out! I’ve worked in hospitality, which really boosted my confidence, and alongside that I tried to get involved with as much as possible. I’ve volunteered with a small cancer charity, helping them with fundraising and growing their digital presence. Alongside that, I’ve campaigned with a group to stop public sexual harassment. For the past two years, I’ve written for an arts and culture magazine, which means I’ve had the opportunity to speak to some really interesting people!
What is one piece of advice you would give your 18 year old self?
To remember that everyone has their own pace. It’s okay to take a step back and think about what you want to do, even if everyone around you seems to have it worked out.
