Fastlaners in 2018 - A look back on the year

Fastlaners in 2018 - A look back on the year

As 2018 draws to a close we wanted to reflect on what we’ve achieved on the Fastlaners programme, and look forward to what we’ve got coming up in 2019. This year we have run ten Fastlaners programmes across London, Birmingham and Manchester, and in the process we have supported 162 people in their search for meaningful employment.

Over the course of the year we have run a variety of workshops on our programmes, everything from CV writing to networking skills, emotional wellbeing, personal branding and interview skills, among a range of other skills based sessions. These sessions are designed to make sure that you leave the programme with greater confidence in the basics of how to approach job applications, while equipping you with a better understanding of your skills, the kind of roles you would be suited for and how to sell yourself to prospective employers.

100% of participants reported an increase in confidence after participating in the programme.

We have also been fortunate to be hosted by some incredible organisations this year and to provide our participants with the opportunity to learn about a range of different sectors. These organisations have included the likes of Thomson Reuters, Siemens, The Civil Service, Comic Relief, Amazon, Brother UK, Barclays and KPMG. These visits have been a really unique part of the programme and what we feel sets Fastlaners apart from other similar opportunities. Each day of the programme is not just an opportunity for our participants to develop their employability skills, it’s also an opportunity to learn about different jobs, opportunities and sectors.

Thanks to the Fastlaners programme, I gained more confidence and the right set of tools needed to successfully continue applying for graduate roles and within two months of having attended the programme I was able to secure a graduate job with a reputable company’ - Esther, Fastlaners July 2018

We also brought together over 100 of our stakeholders and participants for our youth consultation events across London, Greater Manchester and Birmingham this year. These events were designed to generate discussion between businesses and young people to find solutions to the issues surrounding youth employment, the results of which will be collected together in a report that we will be publishing in 2019. Our final events are currently being scheduled for the middle of next year!

‘I suspect that Fastlaners is valuable because it not only offers practical tools and ideas, but it helps to change mindsets. And in the final analysis, it is often your approach rather than simply your technical skills or expertise that make the difference; the difference between success and failure, or between ‘good enough’ and excellent." - Judith Perle, Management Advantage

We are incredibly excited with what we’ve got planned for 2019 and we already have some fantastic organisations lined up to support, including Refinitiv, LexisNexis, Milkround and Softwire. Our next programmes will be running in these regions on the following dates:

Greater Manchester: 11th - 16th February 2019

London: 11th - 21st February 2019

Birmingham: February 2019 (Exact dates TBC)
