At UpRising we have on average 600 volunteers supporting our programmes each year, from our brilliant Trustees to our speakers, who share their invaluable experience with young people on our leadership and employability programmes. We recognise the significant added value that involving volunteers can provide through their expertise and experience, which greatly supports our ambitions to support young people across the UK.
In supporting UpRising our volunteers help us to change the lives of more young people from underrepresented backgrounds by volunteering. Your support will help change a young person’s life forever
UpRising volunteers have:
- An understanding of the value of diversity & inclusion
- Ability to bring enthusiasm and drive to the volunteering role
- A passion for supporting young people
- An ability to engage with people from different backgrounds and with different perspectives
- A willingness to share their professional experience
Volunteer opportunities
Are you a leader looking to support the next generation? Or perhaps you have a knack for leadership skills and are interested in delivering a session? No matter what, we have a volunteer opportunity perfect for your unique talent.
Here are some of the ways that your time can be utilised to develop the next generations of leaders...
Support Making Change Happen
Making Change Happen is our newest leadership programme, starting this Spring 2024 in East London. To find out how to get involved and use your professional experience to support the talented young people of Tower Hamlets click here.
Speaking at an UpRising session or event
There is no better way for our leaders-to-be to learn about local and national decision-making, than from those who are living and breathing it. We are also looking for speakers who can deliver a session on a variety of leadership and employability skills, including; public speaking, personal branding, local decision-making and challenges, campaigning and networking.
Mentoring a young person
Mentoring is a great way to share your insights with a young person who is on their way to becoming a leader. Young people are individually matched with mentors who can offer guidance and expertise in the sector they want to go into. To be a mentor you should have at least four years of professional experience and be able to commit to meeting a young person once a month (online) for up to twelve months. You can find more information via the One Million Mentors website.
Coaching a young person
Young people on our Leadership and Environmental Leadership Programmes have the option to be connected with a professional coach to help further their personal and professional development. To volunteer as a coach we ask that you have a coaching qualification, and are able to commit to meeting a young person once a month for 3-6 months using an online platform
Benefits for young people on our programmes
- Increasing access to professionals and, opportunities to tap into a variety of networks
- Developing skills, building confidence and enhancing readiness for work.
