Fastlaners Youth Employability Consultation Events - October 2017

We're pleased to invite you to the Fastlaners Youth Employability Consultation Events in London on Wednesday 4th October 2017 and in Manchester on Monday 9th October 2018.

We want to make a serious impact in the world of youth employability, influencing stakeholders and shaping policy to ensure diverse young people have access to careers.

In each city, we're hosting a panel discussion, workshop and networking event bringing together representatives from a range of local businesses to explore the issues faced by young diverse people getting work. In London, we are running the event in partnership with global advertising network, Dentsu Aegis and in Manchester, we are being hosted by the big property company Bruntwood.

We'll be discussing how businesses can better recruit young people from a diverse range of backgrounds, fairer recruitment practices, highlighting good practice as well as developing a list of pledges which will ask stakeholders to take back to their organisations to change their processes. There will also be a chance to network with our partners and UpRising alumni, and listen to senior leaders from a range of companies.

“Fastlaners has taught me how to stand out from average candidates and how to present myself in the best possible light to get work. Not only is it important to build on your CV, it is also crucial to build relationships with potential employers.” Aneesa, Manchester Fastlaners  2016

Our Fastlaners programme, funded by Queen’s Young Leaders since 2016, has been actively tackling youth unemployment, giving young people from a range of backgrounds access to professional networks, mentors and skills needed to get into work. 89% of our young people have found work, volunteering opportunities or taken up training within six months of participating on the programme. Fastlaners alumni have taken up roles in The Civil Service, local government, the charity sector as well as work experience at large corporate businesses such as Thomson Reuters and Unilever.

The Fastlaners programme is like no other, as a recent graduate I took part in the opportunity because professionally I was lost, university doesn't really prepare you for the real world or help you develop mentors or networks like Fastlaners does!” Catherine, London Fastlaners 2017

As part of our funding, between 2017 and 2019, the findings from 9 consultations in London, Birmingham and Manchester will be combined into a national report to Comic Relief, who are working with Queen’s Young Leader to facilitate this funding.
