Growing up in an estate in Plaistow, East London, Alvin participated on UpRising’s very first programme in London in 2008/09. He was mentored by Sadiq Khan and since graduating has gone on to lead on issues of social justice, human rights and public policy. He ran The Fourth Group, a global community established to understand the impact of technology on society and how political actors - governments, politicians, and citizens - should respond from 2016-2020. In 2017, he was listed on "Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe" for his work. Alvin also runs community campaigns, for example leading the Citizen’s Inquiry into the Tottenham Riots which engaged 10,000 local people and helped create jobs for young people, as well as leading to the suspension of section 60 stop and searches in the area. He is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Expert Network.
