Our Bright Future

Our Bright Future was an ambitious and innovative partnership led by The Wildlife Trusts which brought together the youth and environmental sectors. It ran from 2016 to the end of 2022. This £33 million programme was funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. It was formed of 31 projects across the UK. Each project helped young people aged 11-24 gain vital skills and experience and improve their wellbeing.

 

Challenge: OBF asked for two sets of workshops to be created, for youth forum participants and for project staff, focusing on:

1. Providing bespoke workshops for projects and programme staff members delivering OBF projects to develop key skills and understanding from micro to macro level in:

  • checking your privilege 
  • understanding unconscious and structural bias 
  • reverse mentoring 

2. Providing bespoke workshops for participants on the OBF Youth Forum to develop key skills and understanding from micro to macro level in:

  • leadership & leadership styles
  • values in leadership 
  • leading and working in teams
  • understanding team conflict and basic conflict resolution

 

Details: 

  • 20 youth forum participants taking part in 4 x 2.5 hour workshops 
  • 23 project staff taking part in 4 x 4 hour workshops 
  • 26 hours total delivery time 

 

Impact:

  1. Increased understanding of project staff on issue surrouning power and privilege - ratings went from 60% to 90% after the workshop 
  2. Project staff created a menifesto to recruit and retain diverse staff members and programme participants 
  3. 94% of the Youth forum participants rated the workshops 8/10 and above
